Trench Shields

Strong, safe, and durable – our trench shields are meticulously engineered and manufactured to deliver practical long-term value for contractors.

Our range of Trench Shields

TuffTech supplies both steel and aluminium trench shields for construction projects across New Zealand, including drainage, utilities, pipeline works, roadworks, and infrastructure. Built and designed for real site conditions, our trench shoring equipment helps contractors safely manage excavation support and temporary works requirements.

TuffTech Steel Heavy Duty Upper Trench Shield (TT-77)

Heavy-duty, steel upper trench shield designed to pair with the steel lower shield, extending protection for deeper trench applications.

TuffTech Steel Heavy Duty Lower Trench Shield (TT-77)

Heavy-duty lower trench shield engineered from high-strength steel for reliable protection across a range of trench widths.

TuffTech Steel Lightweight Trench Shield (TT-91)

Lightweight steel trench shield engineered for durable, reliable protection across everyday excavation requirements.

TuffTech Aluminium Upper Trench Shield (TT-100)

A lightweight aluminium upper shield, designed to pair with the lower shield, extending trench protection for deeper excavations.

TuffTech Aluminium Lower Trench Shield (TT-100)

Lightweight aluminum lower shield designed for trench protection, with the option to pair with the aluminum upper shield for deeper excavations.

Steel Trench Shields

Our range of steel trench shields offer reliable trench protection for civil construction projects at a commercially practical price point – all without compromising on durability and strength.

TuffTech’s lightweight steel trench shields offer a practical solution with easy deployment for smaller trenching applications, while heavy duty steel systems provide added strength and capacity for larger, more demanding excavations.

Our steel trench shields are compatible with a wide range of optional accessories, including adjustable struts, providing contractors with flexibility across different trench widths and working environments.

TuffTech’s steel trench shields are with you for the long haul.

Aluminium Trench Shields

Aluminium trench shields offer top-tier, practical protection at extended lengths for civil projects. Their lower overall weight makes them easier to handle, transport, and position on site, while still providing the strength and durability required for repeated use.

Our aluminium system includes both upper and lower shields which are stackable, allowing an extended height of 3.6 metres for deeper excavations.

TuffTech’s aluminium trench shields are value-engineered to deliver the quality and capability contractors can expect from a premium system, at a competitive price point.

How to Choose the Right Trench Shield Solution

Choosing the right trench shield starts with understanding the excavation, site conditions, and how the equipment will be used. The best solution will depend on factors such as trench size, access, ground conditions and how often the shield needs to be moved.

Trench size and working area

The depth and width of the excavation will help determine the size and type of shield required. It is also important to allow enough working space for workers, pipework, services, and equipment. For deeper excavations, some systems can be configured with compatible upper and lower shields.

Site access and available plant

Consider how the shield will be delivered, lifted into position and moved as work progresses. Restricted sites, roads, or smaller civil projects may benefit from lighter equipment that is easier to handle. Larger sites with suitable lifting equipment may be able to use heavier systems.

Portability and repositioning

If the shield needs to move regularly along the trench, weight and ease of handling become important. All TuffTech trench shields are manufactured with extraction hook points to ensure the process can be as seamless as possible.

Ground and site conditions

Soil conditions, groundwater, nearby structures, traffic, and other loads around the excavation can all affect trench stability. These factors should be assessed before work begins and monitored as conditions change.

Project duration and working method

Think about how long the excavation will remain open and how the work will progress. A short utility installation may have very different requirements from a longer civil project.

Ultimately, the right trench shield should suit the excavation, the available machinery and the way the crew needs to work. Selecting equipment that fits the site conditions can make the job safer and easier to manage.
